The Whipspan Kennels History...
A small, but select, kennel in the countryside of Lancashire, bordering the Pennine Moorland, specializing in Pointer and parti-coloured Cocker Spaniels. Only after much thought and planning is the occasional litter bred. The Whipspan affix was first registered in the mid 1960's, with the first litter of Cocker Spaniels born in 1969. Pointers were added in 1984, and 17 years on, they are still the same type and quality. At Whipspan Kennels, we take special pride in maintaining correct temperament, type and quality, and will continue to do so.
In 1994, the Pointer Dog CC at Crufts was won with Show Champion Whipspan Blaze Of Glory, and again in 2000, with Show Champion Whipspan Dorrigo of Crookrise. In 1996, Cocker Spaniel Show Champion Whipspan Crystal Blue won the Crufts CC in bitches.
Whipspan Kennels' owner/ breeder, Barbara Critchley, is a breed specialist judge. She has judged extensively over the years as a Championship Show judge, enjoying several overseas appointments. She has also judged most Gundog breeds at the open show level, as well as Group and BIS appointments.
Visitors are always welcome, but a call beforehand would be appreciated. Many Champions have been bred at Whipspan, and have been placed around the world as well as the UK. At the present time, three Show Champions grace the kennel, Pointers Show Ch. Whipspan Blaze of Glory and Dutch Ch. Whipspan Mr. Softie, along with the Cocker Spaniel Show Champion Whipspan Crystal Blue.
